On Unbelief

Unbelief is the detachment of the mind from a certain ground. There are at least three assumptions here: that the ground is, at a certain time, unstable; that we are capable of believing — and to do so we understand the consequences of our ability to tie ourselves to the belief, namely, that our finitude will catch up with us and hinder us from a total grasp of what we are trying to perceive and that vulnerability is ever present in any human relation; and lastly, that existence is entirely subjective.

  1. But Dom does point out that man is not at all times threatened with unbelief... specially at youth, the first assumption cannot exist as he is yet to grasp a belief.
